Project management specialist wins contract to oversee the refurbishment of Syngenta laboratories at the Jealott's Hill International Research Centre in Bracknell
Project management specialist Lorien Engineering Solutions has won a contract to oversee the refurbishment of Syngenta laboratories at the company's Jealott's Hill International Research Centre in Bracknell.
Lorien will act as site construction manager and principal contractor for construction and design management throughout the project which is due to finish early next year.
Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness employing 20,000 people in more than 90 countries. The company is a leader in crop protection and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market.
The refurbishment in Bracknell will provide research accommodation for equipment and people transferred from Basel in Switzerland.
Lorien started design work in January 2003 and work on site began in July.
It covers around eight laboratories, including an aquatics laboratory, as well as climate and temperature-controlled growth rooms.
Lorien has been central to the design of a wide range of services, including specialist gases, ventilation and extract systems and waste sterilisation.
Project manager Jon Miller said: "The laboratories are within one of the existing research centre buildings which is to remain occupied by Syngenta personnel during the work.
"Their health and safety is, therefore, of top priority and, as a result, the work has to be carefully phased and sectioned off to enable the various departments to remain operational and also keep noise and disruption to a minimum".
Lorien held user group meetings with Syngenta personnel and their line managers to agree layouts for the laboratories, all of which are tailored to the activity carried out within them.
