Orbital Sciences' Applied Instrument Technologies unit has announced the introduction of two Analect FTIR sampling accessories, designed to simplify routine analysis
The RefinIR and RefinIR 100t from Orbital Sciences are designed to simplify routine analysis in refinery laboratories for light and heavy hydrocarbons.
Configured to operate with the Analect Diamond 20 FTIR and FTNIR instruments, these products can be used for at-line/off-line process analysis or for calibration data collection for the Analect HSS process FTIR analyzer.
The RefinIR delivers automated data acquisition of multiple liquid samples of light hydrocarbons at ambient temperatures.
The system can be loaded with up to 27 40ml vials and automatically transfers the sample to a flow-through transmission cell installed in the Diamond 20-sample compartment for spectral data acquisition.
In addition, the process includes automatic wash and validation.
The RefinIR 100t is a semi-automatic sampling oven for data acquisition of up to 12 40ml liquid samples at temperatures up to 100C.
Oven controllers and intrinsically safe sensors enable the sampling of flammable samples.
Examples of heavy hydrocarbons analysed include crude oil, heavy napthas, cat feed, lube oils and lube oil additives.
The new QC 80 operating software program has an intuitive GUI, the operation of which requires no technician training.
After routine applications requirements are entered, a multiple sample analysis is just a few operator-enacted buttons from completion.
The QC 80 software also features a multilingual user interface.
With one click of a menu field, the operator can choose from a variety of languages. "Refinery labs are under constant pressure to complete more tests and analyses with fewer overall people.
As a result, analytical instruments must be designed with more automation features and must be operable by technicians," according to Joseph LaConte, vice president and general manager of Orbital Applied Instrument Technologies business unit.
