Installation guideline specifies the network topology, cabling types and methods, connection technology and network components for use in industrial areas requiring protection to IP67
The most important criteria for broad acceptance of ethernet in industrial automation applications include ease of handling during installation, communication and engineering.
Profinet, Profibus International's new standard for advanced automation, offers simple time- and cost-saving solutions for installation, drawn from the practical experience of numerous member companies of the Profibus.
Building on the common standards IEC 11801 and EN 50173 that cover the office area, the new Profinet Installation Guideline specifies the network topology, cabling types and methods, connection technology and network components for use in industrial areas requiring protection to IP67.
It takes into consideration the special requirements of an industrial environment, such as system-specific network structures and cabling, field-wired cabling, high network availability, EMC load and mechanical ruggedness.
Ultimately, the specifications laid down in the Profinet Installation guideline will be integrated in a new international standard for ethernet-based industrial installations, currently under development.
