Two new documents outline a supplementary fieldbus technology that reduces the failure probability of information transmission between controllers and field devices
Profibus International has announced the availability of two new documents on Profisafe, a supplementary technology for standard Profibus that reduces the failure probability of information transmission between fail-safe controllers and fail-safe field devices in accordance with IEC 61508.
Profisafe defines a complete set of rules that enable manufacturers, integrators, distributors, competence centres and consultants to maintain consistency in implementation and application of the technology. The intention is to ensure that Profisafe helps Profibus users avoid risk and harm or damage to people, environment and assets without the need for an additional safety bus.
'Profisafe - Requirements for Installation, Immunity and Electrical Safety' also describes fail-safe solutions for configuration, parameter assignment and maintenance of PROFIsafe-compliant installations.
Version: draft 0.91, order No: 2.232 'Profisafe - Test Specification for Safety Related Profibus DP Slaves' defines how DP slaves should be tested in order to ensure compliance with the Profisafe specification. Version: draft 0.82, order No: 2.242
