The £18m refurbishment of Manchester Metropolitan University's John Dalton Tower Phase II building is moving along in readiness for the 2004/5 academic term
In accordance with the construction programme, building services company SES lifted in to position two York chillers recently on to a specially constructed mezzanine floor designed to house the equipment.
Due to its ninth floor situation and restrictive lifting zone, SES commissioned a 225t Quigley crane to carry out the 60m lift, which had to be executed with fine precision due to the space restrictions above and below.
When completed the facility will be used by the University's Faculty of Science and Engineering and will house high quality laboratories and teaching environments.
The SES contract value is in excess of £5 million and Laing O'Rourke is the principal contractor on the project.
