Spectronic Devices, a manufacturer of miniature spectrometers and line cameras, reports a successful visit to the recent Laser 2003 World of Photonics exhibition held in Munich, Germany.
The trip to Munich evoked special memories for Spectronic Devices's founder director Les Cronin, who worked in the Bavarian capital for over 20 years before returning to the UK to establish Spectronic Devices.
Laser 2003 is the world's largest trade fair of its kind, showcasing all aspects of global business in light.
This year it occupied three vast halls in the Neue Messe exhibition complex built on the site of Munich's former Reim airport.
The Spectronic Devices stand showed the full range of its established products, ranging from simple low cost line cameras to cooled NIR and back thinned CCD cameras and its well-known single and dual channel miniature spectrometers.
Also featured on the stand were three new developments in the Spectronic Devices product pipeline.
Consolidating its position as an established supplier of tools for environmental monitoring was a low-cost optoelectronic oil leak detector, designed to be buried in the ground for remote, unattended monitoring of tanks, pipelines and oil-filled cables to ensure absence of leaks.
A second new product that also attracted interest was a near-infrared camera sourced from the Belgian start-up company Xenics.
Third was a first prototype of Cronin's latest invention: a novel, patented approach to dual beam spectroscopy that offers greater flexibility at lower cost.
Commenting on the exhibition, Cronin said: "This was a well organised event that attracted quality visitors from across Europe and the world. "All three of us on the stand were kept busy with enquiries and most of the people who visited our stand were serious potential customers.
"We are really grateful to Trade Partners UK which helped to make our participation in Laser 2003 possible.
"It is of great value to a small company such as ours that exports 85% of its output."
