By the end of 2007, Vascoda will have been enhanced further to become a user-orientated and transparent service for scientific and scholarly fields
At the start of 2005, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium fur Bildung und Forschung BMBF) approved funding for the second development phase for Vascoda, the interdisciplinary internet portal.
The aim of the second project is to expand well structured information offerings and to ensure standardised access for all user groups.
By the end of 2007, Vascoda will have been enhanced further to become a user-orientated and transparent service for scientific and scholarly fields.
Vascoda aims to then offer both research possibilities in relevant data stock and also easy and convenient access to required documents.
Competence centres in Hanover, Munster and Cologne are being funded.
They will assume responsibility for the various areas.
The Technical Information Library (Technische Informationsbibliothek TIB) in Hanover will take over the following areas: coordination, organisational development, strategic development and also marketing and public relations.
The ULB Munster and the ZB MED in Cologne will be jointly responsible for evaluation, usage research and quality management; whereby their main focus will be on the identification of user interests.
The BMBF is also funding targeted technical development of the internet portal and server operation.
A main focus is to integrate local and regional libraries more fully into the vascoda portal.
This area of responsibility is henceforth to be found at the University Library Centre of the state North Rhine-Wesphalia in Cologne (Hochschulbibliothekszentrum des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen HBZ).
The HBZ's expertise gained during the development of DigiBib - Digitale Bibliothek (Digital Library) will be particularly valuable to Vascoda in the area of technical structural strategy development, it says.
