Thanks to their two million pixel CCD, the cameras in the new DS-2M series achieve the high frame rates and increased sensitivity needed for multiple live capture modes and fast digital transfer rates
In direct response to constantly evolving digital imaging demands, Nikon has launched three new digital cameras offering higher frame rates and greater sensitivity.
Known collectively as the Digital Sight 2M (DS-2M) series, the new models build on the success of the DS-5M series, and have been designed to meet the needs of digital imaging in both life and materials science applications.
Comprising cooled (DS-2MBWc) and non-cooled (DS-2MBW) monochrome, plus a colour model (DS-2Mv), the new Nikon DS-2M series is described as a perfect complement to a wide range of illumination techniques including brightfield, darkfield, and fluorescence, to name but a few.
Thanks to their two million pixel CCD, the cameras in the new DS-2M series achieve the high frame rates and increased sensitivity needed for multiple live capture modes and fast digital transfer rates.
With video display rates of up to 30 frames per second possible, the DS-2M is said to be equivalent to an analogue CCD camera, making it perfect for live viewing, as well as image capture and networking.
Signal-to-noise ratio has also been significantly enhanced due to the high sensitivity of the new CCD, further improving the quality of image capture.
In binning mode, researchers can select levels of imaging sensitivity and image resolution.
By choosing the cooled monochrome camera, users can capture an image over a long exposure time with a reduction in noise but increased sensitivity.
This option proves particularly beneficial in applications involving photosensitive or weakly fluorescing samples.
The new cameras can be used as stand-alone units for immediate viewing and direct printing.
Alternatively, images can be manipulated via dedicated software, or networked.
They are simple to use and easy to connect to a PC or laptop, via a USB 2.0 port, eliminating the inconvenience associated with framegrabbers and PC incompatibility.
Dedicated Nikon ACT-2U software allows the DS-2M series to view, capture, label, and save high quality images in various formats with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Together with the Nikon L1 or U1 Digital Sight camera controllers, these versatile systems are said to be ideally suited for use in cutting-edge biological research, clinical analysis and documentation, as well as medical teaching use.
