Mass spectrometer boasts a ten-fold increase in sensitivity over existing commercially available systems and claims unparalleled experimental efficiency
Applied Biosystems, together with its joint venture partner MDS Sciex, has introduced a new extremely sensitive Maldi Tof/Tof mass spectrometer that, it says, is set to take the world of protein biomarkers by storm.
The 4800 Maldi Tof/Tof analyser boasts a ten-fold increase in sensitivity over existing commercially available systems and claims unparalleled experimental efficiency using powerful, automated workflows.
The 4800 combines breakthrough Tof/Tof optics technology with the novel OptiBeam on-axis laser, which increases the number of ions directed into the ion path to achieve the dramatic increase in sensitivity.
In addition, the enhanced Quantis precursor ion selector allows users to more specifically isolate the precursor ions designated for MS/MS, thus achieving more accurate and easier-to-interpret results.
As a result of the increased sensitivity and expanded dynamic range of the analyser, researchers can identify proteins with high confidence, perform multiplex studies with the use of the iTraq reagents, and obtain true results with or without tagging chemistry, such as Icat reagents.
The new system is compatible with GPS Explorer software which automatically and intelligently analyses complex samples by collecting data with the highest relevance and produces cleaner results.
