Awards recognise contributions in helping the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) succeed at its mission to bridge the gap between fundamental discoveries and their military uses
Sensors Unlimited (SUI), a manufacturer of shortwave infrared (SWIR) sensors, near-infrared (NIR) imaging systems and indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) detector technology, has been nominated as part of a team for the 2005 Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) 'Significant Technical Achievement' award.
The Significant Technical Achievement award nomination is one of five categories that will be honoured during Darpa Tech 2005 in Anaheim, California, in August 2005.
Darpa recognises individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions in helping Darpa succeed at its mission to bridge the gap between fundamental discoveries and their military uses.
The nominated team at Sensors Unlimited is headed by Martin Ettenberg, director of imaging products, and includes Timothy Bakker, Michael Blessinger, Robert Brubaker, Vincent Burzi, Michael Bush, Eric Dziekonski, Joseph Groppe, Kenneth Loesser and Tom Sudol.
Ettenberg notes: "It is my pleasure to work with this extraordinary team of creative and talented engineers and scientists.
"Their combined efforts are responsible for improving camera performance and extending the sensitivity of our high resolution InGaAs imaging devices.
"Sensors Unlimited's growing expertise in shortwave infrared imaging (SWIR) is driving the technology into new markets with exciting and diverse applications.
"We are delighted to be recognised for our contribution in SWIR imaging and are proud to be nominated for this prestigious award by the Information Exploitation Office of Darpa".
The five Darpa Tech 2005 nomination categories are Sustained excellence by a government agent, Sustained excellence by a performer, Significant technical achievement, Small business innovation research award and Director's award for outstanding personal accomplishment.
All nominees will be honoured at the awards banquet at the Marriott Anaheim Hotel in Anaheim, California on 10 August 2005.
