Olympus America is introducing the Tango automated blood bank system at the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) national meeting this week.
Designed for the hospital transfusion service, donor centers and reference laboratories, Tango is capable of performing a host of functions including blood group determination; antibody screening and identification; phenotyping; and compatibility testing.
To celebrate and highlight the newest in its line of blood bank systems, Olympus sponsored a workshop at the Seattle meeting.
The seminar was entitled Instrument Functionality, Assay Performance and Support Considerations in Evaluation and Implementation of Automated Blood Bank Equipment.
In the exhibition hall, visitors can experience a wide array of Olympus systems for blood bank automation and analysis needs, and can gain hands-on experience with the new Olympus system.
In addition, Mediware Information Systems will also be demonstrating how Tango operates with its LIS systems.
With a throughput of approximately 200 wells per hour depending on the test configuration, Tango provides hospital transfusion service laboratorians a more efficient tool in areas where real estate is tight and functionality is key.
The benchtop analyser will perform pipetting sequences of liquids and subsequent analysis of agglutination reactions.
The fully automated process includes positive sample identification; process control through automated recording of reagents (lot numbers, expiration dates); sample dilutions; reagent addition and mixing; incubation; washing; centrifugation and image analysis.
For greater flexibility, Tango systems also feature batch and random access operating modes and Stat sample interrupt.
For easy use and maximum efficiency, it will use a Windows NT operating system, Pentium processor, touch screen interface and image analysis software.
