Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) has agreed to establish an operation in India; delegation visiting New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai in November
Following an increasing number of enquiries from existing and potential new members in India about membership, education, training and information, the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) has agreed to establish an operation in India.
Chief executive John Hooper and board member Alan Needham are visiting New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai from 14 November 2005 to meet with key players in clinical research from government, academia and industry to establish how ICR can help in developing professionals, sharing knowledge and raising standards.
It is envisaged that an Indian Advisory Board for ICR will be established to lead the institute in India.
Hooper said: "India is seen as a key emerging destination for conducting clinical trials.
"There is great interest in the ICR's expertise, including its long established programmes which are now increasingly delivered through eLearning and its openness to sharing knowledge and information resulting in higher standards of clinical trials".
Both Alan Needham and John Hooper will be speaking at a conference workshop on global clinical trials in india - prospects and challenges, organised by the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, closer to home, November sees another packed schedule of events in the ICR calendar with the Thames Valley seminar on 1 November and the Northwest roadshow which reaches Manchester on 21 November at the Postgraduate Centre of Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Looking further ahead to December, ICR will host a trainers' forum on 6 December and a one day event, 'An introduction to clinical research', at its Marlow offices on 8 December.
December also sees the launch of the 2006 ICR publishing catalogue, the new eLearning resources and, following a recent co-operation agreement with Ellibs, ICR will also be launching its publications in electronic format.
Ellibs offers a virtual bookshop for public and university libraries, allowing them to purchase eBooks to increase their stock for use by patrons.
At the same time, ICR will start selling the eBooks via the ICR website for individuals to purchase.
