This development of moving coil actuator technology allows extended travel ranges while maintaining the advantages of high speed, high resolution and excellent repeatabilty
Orlin Technologies announces the MLA series of multi-pole linear micro-positioning stages from Smac.
This development of moving coil actuator technology allows extended travel ranges while maintaining the advantages of Smac actuators over conventional micro-positioning equipment, namely high speed, high resolution and excellent repeatabilty.
Initial offerings in the MLA range are the MLA20-100 with 100mm of travel and the MLA55-600 with 600mm of travel.
These units offer dynamic performance comparable linear induction motors at a price similar to conventional ballscrew stages.
Standard closed-loop resolution options range from 5 microns to 100nm with finer resolutions on special request.
Because of their direct drive linear motors which display zero hysteresis and backlash, repeatability of +/-1 encoder count can be achieved.
Smac multi-pole actuators are also able to take advantage of the unique 'softland' feature which has underpinned much of the success of the single pole units.
A softland is achieved by precisely controlling the force exerted by the actuator, enabling it to handle delicate objects without damage.
MLA series actuators are ideal for precise positioning, constant-velocity scanning applications and high speed pick and place.
Smac can also offer integrated multiple axis combinations, with cables routed neatly to avoid problems with flying leads.
It can also engineer custom devices to users' specifications for OEM applications.
