Dionex's reagent-free ion chromatography systems with eluent regeneration have been approved as an alternative test procedure for methods 300.0 and 300.1 by the US EPA.
The methods cover compliance monitoring of drinking water.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water's Technical Support Center, chromatographic systems that use eluent regeneration are acceptable for use in the original methods 'as long as all original method quality control parameters are met'.
The EPA ruled that these methods are useful for drinking water compliance monitoring performed under National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
Reagent-free ion chromatography systems with eluent regeneration (RFIC-EG) use the suppressor to regenerate returning eluent, allowing a single preparation of eluent to be used for up to four weeks.
Such systems use carbonate, carbonate/bicarbonate, or MSA eluents for isocratic separations.
The alternative test procedure using eluent regeneration for Methods 300.0 and 300.1 allow laboratories conducting compliance monitoring of drinking water to take advantage of the ease-of-use and reproducibility of RFIC-ER systems.
