GE Healthcare has introduced Illustra Tripleprep, a kit for rapid, simultaneous isolation of genomic DNA, RNA and total denatured protein from a single undivided sample in less than one hour.
The product is a combination of two spin columns and six optimised buffers for use with mammalian cell culture or animal tissue.
High-quality and yield DNA, RNA and protein can be isolated from a range of tissue types such as liver, kidney, spleen, brain, lung and intestine and the cell lines HeLa, NIH-3T3, CHO-K1 and HEK-293.
Tissue amounts ranging from 1-20mg and cell amounts ranging from 0.3-5 million cells can be used for each preparation.
Illustra Tripleprep offers up to a 70 per cent time saving compared with the traditional method of splitting the sample and carrying out three individual extractions, according to GE Healthcare.
It also allows more data to be generated from small amounts of material.
In addition, direct correlation of data derived from genomic DNA, RNA and protein can be drawn with confidence, as the data is obtained from the same undivided starting sample.
The flexible workflow with multiple stop points in the protocol allows for isolation of any two or all three analytes.
The isolated gDNA, total RNA and total denatured proteins are suitable for various genomic and proteomic applications such as PCR, restriction enzyme digestion, sequencing, array CGH, RT-PCR, gene expression microarray, SDS-Page, western blotting, 2-D Dige and LCMS.
