Academy Savant has released three more modules in its series of e-learning programmes entitled Practical Lab Skills.
These are now accessible through the Savant website.
Using live-action camerawork in a real lab, the programmes show close-up demonstrations of the correct and safe method of carrying out laboratory procedures.
Each module contains about 30 minutes of video with voice over that can be displayed as text and also printed out.
Student learning is assessed through multiple-choice quizzes and reviews with open-ended questions.
There is also an extensive glossary of technical terms.
The new titles are: Volumetric Techniques, comprising sections on using balances, using a pipette, using a burette and making up solutions; Inorganic Analysis Methods, comprising sections on gravimetric analysis, electrogravimetric analysis for metals and Kjeldahl determination of nitrogen; and Measuring and Controlling Temperatures, comprising sections on determination of melting temperature, determination of boiling temperature, determining a liquid/liquid phase diagram and determining a solid/solid phase diagram.
Licenses are offered online and on CD, ranging from inexpensive short-term access on individual computers to permanent long-term network/intranet installations and learning management systems.
