Analysis of chemisorption measurements can now be carried out with the TPDpro add-on module for the Belsorp Max gas and vapour adsorption analyser from BEL, available in the UK from Merrow Scientific.
The new module adds dynamic flow analysis to the high-end volumetric adsorption system.
Particularly suitable for catalyst evaluation and reaction studies, the TPDpro allows catalysts to be characterised using physisorption or chemisorption techniques.
Analyses include temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) and pulse titration for measuring metal dispersion rates.
The instrument's sensitive thermal conductivity detector (TCD) detects concentrations in the gas stream, enabling the amount absorbed to be calculated from the concentration change.
Measurements can be made across a range of pressures up to 133kPa.
Evaluation of catalyst performance is particularly important in sectors such as fuel cells, the automotive industry, and chemical and petrochemical engineering.
The Belsorp Max is equipped with three independent analysis ports and a dedicated port for saturation vapour pressure measurement.
Each port has pressure sensors, enabling up to three simultaneous and independent sample measurements.
A mass-flow controller is incorporated for accurate regulation of gas flow rate.
It also has a loop with a thermometer and a pressure sensor for enhanced accuracy and reproducibility of chemisorption measurement.
The instrument incorporates BEL's Advanced Free Space Measurement (AFSM) method to compensate for free space change in the sample cell.
This, according to the company, increases measurement accuracy and repeatability.
