Academy Savant has released 'HPLC troubleshooting expert system', the second in a suite of e-Learning modules written by John Dolan and Dennis Saunders on HPLC troubleshooting.
It is available both online and on CD, and as short-term or permanent licences.
The program runs on a single computer (PC or Mac) or a network (LAN/intranet and learning management systems).
The single-user online version is now accessible through the Savant website.
The Expert System uses an interactive decision-tree-based process to lead the user from the symptoms of the problem to the probable cause and finally recommends what corrective action to take.
It simplifies the process of correcting problems in HPLC systems and teaches the chromatograph user the basics of troubleshooting methodology and how to understand the underlying causes.
'HPLC troubleshooting expert system' is a companion to Savant's 'Introduction to HPLC troubleshooting' module, which describes typical situations such as blockages and leaks, component failure, peak/baseline deformation, superfluous/negative peaks and retention time/sensitivity issues.
Besides guidelines on preventive maintenance and repair, there is a quiz and a glossary of HPLC terms.
The customisation capability on the CD edition enables instructors and administrators to supplement the pages in the Expert System with lab-specific content and make it more immediately applicable and relevant.
