UK showcases lab innovations
28 Sep 2012
Lab Innovations 2012 is taking place on the 7-8th November at the NEC, Birmingham.
Organised by easyFairs, it is being billed as the UK’s only event dedicated to showcasing the latest laboratory technology and consumables, biotech and analytical equipment.
Conferences and seminars
One of the main attractions will be the Royal Society of Chemistry Conference. This will focus on health and safety, analytical chemistry - including the latest advances in measurement, life sciences and environmental research - and continual professional development.
For instance, Charlotte Ashley-Roberts, RSC Careers Specialist, will deliver a session on ’continuing your career’ and she will follow this with 1:1 advice for delegates. Dr Andrea McGhee, RSC Professional Standards Specialist will discuss ’achieving chartered status.’
For professionals working within the food and beverage sectors, the show supporter, Campden BRI, has devised a packed series of sessions focussing on micro and anaylitical topics.
The free to attend seminars will include one on pathogen testing at which 3M will demonstrate its brand new 3M Molecular Detection System. Based on an innovative combination of two technologies - isothermal DNA amplification and ATP bioluminescence - it delivers highly sensitive results in a simple format.
BioControl offers the broadest range of proprietary testing platforms for the detection of food-borne pathogens, spoilage organisms and hygiene and HACCP monitoring. Their presentation will outline a new easy, fast accurate method for the detection of the top 7 Shiga Toxigenic E.coli (STEC), including E.coli O157:H7 as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Product launches and demonstrations
In addition to learning activity, interactive display areas will allow exhibitors to demonstrate their latest products with even some exclusive, never seen before, technologies being launched.
Containment Technology Services (CTS) will be launching a new laboratory enclosure unit at the show. The versatile mobile and bench mounted system represents a real step change for pharmaceutical industry labs. It comes with a multitude of set ups making it suitable for many different applications.
Sean Codling, CTS, managing director says: “As the only UK show of its kind, we felt this was the perfect opportunity for us to get this major new product in front of lab professionals.
“I can’t give away too much information at this stage as it genuinely is a new development which our team is still working on, but suffice to say we think it will receive a lot of attention at the show.”
The show will also be the first show in the world to feature Sairem’s groundbreaking MiniFlow200 and MiniLabotron2000 compact microwave assisted instruments designed for chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical research.
In these instruments, high performance solid state and magnetron based microwave generators have been combined with batch and continuous flow reactors ideal for synthesis from mg-scale up to several kg.
