Agilent Technologies Europe has announced the development of a high-sensitivity LC/MS method for the analysis of triglycerides in cooking oils and dairy products
This method can be used to detect selected triglyceride standards in food components using an Agilent 1100 liquid chromatograph/mass spectrometer (LC/MS).
Oils are the primary components of many foods, such as cooking oils and dairy products.
Consequently it is desirable to conduct compositional analyses of oil-based fatty acid components found in these foods. Although methods using gas or liquid chromatography are available, these methods sometimes lack precision in either sample preprocessing or sensitivity.
However, selected triglyceride standards can be readily detected with high sensitivity using an Agilent 1100 LC/MS with atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (APCI) in positive ion mode.
In the selected ion mode (SIM), measurements at 1ppb are possible by selecting the base peak in the mass spectrum of each composition.
