Agilent Technologies has announced an agreement with Hitachi Ltd Life Science Group of Japan for the supply of Agilent's custom and catalog microarrays, a microarray reader and consumables to aid scientists in the search for disease-related genes, used in pharmaceutical research.
The microarrays will be used by Hitachi in a new contract research service center to be opened later this month, for those Japanese pharmaceutical companies wishing to do gene expression research into human diseases.
"We are pleased that Hitachi has selected Agilent for the supply of microarrays for its contract gene expression research in Japan," said Chris van Ingen, senior vice president of Agilent's Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis business.
"We look forward to enabling Hitachi to generate gene expression information that will be used to identify causes of human diseases and the cures for those diseases." Hitachi will use Agilent's catalog human, mouse and rat microarrays as well as custom designed microarrays.
Until now, Hitachi has been using in-house developed microarrays for its research purposes.
With the new service, Hitachi intends to attract those researchers who wish to do a wide range of research using a large number of gene and drug candidates.
Agilent sells its life science solution products in Japan through its subsidiary, Yokogawa Analytical Systems, based in Hachioji, Tokyo.
