Two systems are available from UK distributor Don Whitley Scientific, the Colifast Analyser for laboratory use and the Colifast At-Line Microbial Monitor (Calm) for in-line monitoring at point of contamination.
The Colifast Analyser gives automatic early warning of positive sample status, allowing earlier operational decisions which may often have cost-saving implications.
The system comprises a selective growth medium with a substrate which fluoresces after hydrolysis by a specific coliform enzyme.
Detection is then automatically carried out in the Colifast Analyser.
The indicator substrate, media composition and differential incubation temperatures ensure system specificity, providing dual indicator testing for thermotolerant coliforms, E coli and total coliforms.
Advanced user-friendly software includes report formats for easy data interpretation. The Colifast At-Line Microbial monitor (Calm) provides rapid detection of environmental contamination in river and sea effluent levels, water plant operations or distribution systems. A user-defined alarm level gives early warning of faecal contamination and coliform or microbial growth whilst continuous results are sent automatically to the control room or laboratory, enabling a historical profile to be compiled.
