Pittcon saw the introduction of what the manufacturer says is the world's only accelerator-free disposable nitrile glove, to reduce chances of contact dermatitis
Best Manufacturing has announced the introduction of N-Dex Free, which it says is the world's first accelerator-free disposable nitrile glove.
N-Dex Free debuted at Pittcon in New Orleans.
Accelerators are chemical additives used to compress the curing process in making disposable nitrile gloves.
They are also linked to persistent workplace maladies such as Type IV dermatitis, a debilitating skin condition that includes chronic rash, bleeding eczema, and disfiguring eruptions.
"There are three classes of accelerators: thiurams, carbamates, and mercaptobenzothiazole, and until now they were crucial in the formulation of a non-latex glove," said George Mack, general manager of Best Manufacturing.
"We have patented a new formulation that results in a low modulus nitrile glove, with performance characteristics identical to the original N-DEX glove, but accomplished without the use of accelerators." "Contact dermatitis is a major problem in workers in many diverse industries.
Skin diseases are the third highest reported cause of occupational disease," said Don Groce, technical specialist with Best Manufacturing.
"Occupational contact dermatitis is most often seen in occupations such as cleaning and health care, the construction and metal industries, and among hairdressers and other service people.
Unfortunately, for many sensitised individuals who wear disposable gloves daily, Type IV reactions can be a career death sentence." "The new N-Dex Free glove is the most non-allergenic glove on the market," Mack continued.
"And the high-visibility green is wonderful for emergency medical personnel where increased visibility and colour-coded operations are critical." The N-Dex Free disposable nitrile glove provides laboratory, pharmaceutical and industrial workers an accelerator-free and latex-free option with greater grip, comfort and dexterity.
After four years of research and development, the N-Dex Free glove has passed the ASTM Standard D6319, which is the standard for measuring the physical properties of nitrile gloves.
Although N-Dex Free is a premium glove, it is priced the same as the original N-Dex glove.
