Indentec has developed a digital tester specifically for checking the hardnesses of large rock drill bits, difficult to accommodate on standard machines.
Based on one of its microprocessor controlled Rockwell models, the benchtop machine is designed to test the hardnesses of areas inside blind bores on drill bits upto 250mm in outside diameter.
To cater for the generally substantial wall thicknesses between bore and outside diameter, the machine is constructed as a stretched version.
This increases the distance between test indenter and test table, providing up to 250mm of 'daylight' for specimen access. Additionally, the digital display and control panel normally mounted on the front of the canopy has been moved to the side of the machine casing, where it can be read and operated without being obscured by the large drill bit on test.
Indentec says that with its unique nose mounted indenter, this purpose built machine can make Rockwell tests deep inside blind bores without need for special tooling.
