Particularly suited for test and measurement, medical, broadcast, and military applications where high performance, tough construction and reliability are essential
A new small fibre optic contact, the Lemo F7, has been developed for use in single, multi-fibre and hybrid ruggedised Lemo connectors, resulting in higher contact densities and significant space savings.
It is anticipated that it will be particularly suited for test and measurement, medical, broadcast, and military applications where high performance, tough construction and reliability are essential.
Suitable for both singlemode and multimode requirements (9/125, 50/125 and 62.5/125 fibres), this contact employs ceramic ferrules and alignment sleeves for excellent performance and reliability.
Based on the proven design of the F2 contact, it is similarly sprung-loaded to provide a reliable and continuous signal transmission even in conditions of extreme vibration.
Fully tested to IEC 61300-02 mechanical and environmental standards, the contact gives excellent optical performance such as an average insertion loss of 0.18dB singlemode (IEC61300-02-34 method 2).
The F7 contact is designed to fit multi fibre connectors or mixed fibre optic/electrical inserts from sizes 1 to 5 in both the B and K series of Lemo connectors.
As an example the small contact size means that two contacts can be housed in a ruggedised connector of only 15mm diameter, with up to 21 contacts in a 35mm diameter connector. Additionally hybrid electro-optic configurations are available, such as one fibre and two low voltage (500V or 7A) in a 12mm diameter connector, or four fibres and four low voltage (300V or 8A) in an 18mm diameter connector.
Cleaning of contacts is straightforward through the easy removal of the alignment sleeve from the front of the connector.
The simple alignment removal tool retains the alignment sleeve during cleaning to ensure it is not easily mislaid.
Due to the modular design, a very wide range of ruggedised connector housings are available, including in-line plugs and sockets, and panel plugs and sockets.
The B and K series (IP54 and IP68 respectively) also offer multiple keying options for additional security against cross mating where a number of connections are utilised.
