The RM500 and PCM500 are two new general-purpose, contamination ratemeters with audio indication of count rate, designed and manufactured by Southern Scientific
Both units operate with most commercially-available GM and scintillation detectors while the PCM500 has the facility to discriminate between alpha and beta radiation and is therefore ideally suited for use with dual phosphor probes.
Audio indication of count rate is provided on both instruments with the PCM500 emitting different tones for alpha and beta radiation.
The clearly marked 250deg, four-decade, analogue display has a log scale from 0.5 to 5,000cps and is extremely easy to read.
The input sensitivity is 50mV and EHT adjustable from 300 to 1,500V. Highly competitively priced, both units are built in a rugged, easy to clean case and are powered by two alkaline D type batteries that provide up to 150 hours operation.
