Direct molecular weight measurement on a wide range of polymers is promised by Viscotek Europe for its low angle light scattering detector, which can be retrofitted to GPC/SEC systems
Available from Viscotek Europe is a revolutionary low angle light scattering (Lals) detector providing, for the first time, routine direct measurement of molecular weight for a wide range of synthetic polymers, natural polymers and proteins.
Incorporating patented optical technology that will effectively operate at an angle of only 7deg, the Lals detector represents a major breakthrough in light scattering technology.
Unlike multi-angle light scattering techniques that can only determine molecular weight by extrapolation, the Viscotek Lals measures molecular weight directly and thus is inherently more accurate.
Available as a stand-alone detector, the Viscotek LALS detector may be retrofitted to most modern GPC/SEC systems significantly enhancing the molecular weight characterisation capabilities.
The Lals detector also represents a significant enhancement to Viscotek's unique triple detector array (TDA), which it says is the most comprehensive and flexible molecular characterisation tool on the market.
As part of the Viscotek TDA, that also includes a right angle light scattering detector, a differential refractometer, and a patented four-capillary balanced bridge viscometer acting in concert, the new Lals detector allows direct determination of absolute molecular weight, molecular size, density, and conformation as well as providing structural information such as branching and aggregation.
