Affordable 1D detector for X-ray diffraction measurements in materials research and process analysis is virtually maintenance-free, compact and robust enough for everyday use
Bruker AXS has launched its novel LynxEye detector for higher speed and higher resolution X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements than possible with traditional 'point' detectors.
LynxEye is described as a cost-effective one-dimensional (1D) detector for measuring a wide angular range simultaneously, thereby significantly reducing measurement times compared to point detectors, while achieving high resolution and excellent peak shape.
While even higher detector performance and larger detectors are available for various advanced XRD applications with Bruker AXS's award-winning one-dimensional Vantec-1, and two-dimensional Vantec-2000 detectors (2005 R and D 100 Award winner), these inherently are more costly to manufacture.
The LynxEye detector uses affordable, yet high-performance novel compound silicon strip technology, and features a large 14.4mm by 16mm active area.
Since there is no need for counting gas, cooling water, or liquid nitrogen, the LynxEye is a virtually maintenance-free, compact and robust detector for everyday use.
It fits all D4 and D8 series Bruker AXS diffractometers and can be readily exchanged with other detectors.
The LynxEye detector will be beneficial for many materials research applications, such as fast qualitative and quantitative phase analysis, crystal structure refinement, micro-strain and crystallite size determination, as well as stress measurements, says the company.
It will be an attractive choice for many academic and industrial materials research organisations, as well as for advanced process analysis.
Lutz Bruegemann, XRD marketing manager for Bruker AXS, comments: "The new LynxEye complements our X-ray diffraction product line with an affordable yet high performance 1D detector.
"Even shorter measurement times and real X-ray snapshot movies remain the domain of our larger and ultra-fast Vantec detectors.
"We are convinced that our new LynxEye will make faster, high quality X-ray powder diffraction available to a broader customer base".
