The European Collection of Cell Cultures (ECACC) launches EasyCeL, a range of cell lines supplied in a ready-to-use format in standardised cell culture tubes
EasyCeL is designed to be used in routine clinical virology for the detection and isolation of a wide range of viruses in clinical samples.
The technology was developed originally by scientists from HPA Clinical Microbiology laboratories at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and the growth of this service over the last ten years has resulted in clinical diagnostic laboratories making a saving on consumables normally associated with using T25 - T175 flasks.
Scientists from the HPA Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Addenbrookes, Cambridge, are recognised throughout the UK as providers of diagnostic and clinical support services.
Their knowledge and expertise in viral diagnosis, was used as the foundation for development and expansion of the service through its HPA partner ECACC.
By working in partnership with ECACC, an expert in the maintenance, production and world-wide distribution of authenticated cell lines, this new service provides customers with the reassurance that the EasyCeL range has undergone Quality Control and Quality assurance measures.
The EasyCeL series is comprised of five cell lines:.
PLC/PRF/5 - a human liver hepatoma cell line which the scientists have used to isolate and/or propagate, various viruses including adenovirus, astrovirus, influenza A and B, poliovirus, hepatitis A and HIV-1.
EasyCeL MRC-5 - a human foetal lung cell line, which is susceptible to viruses such as poliovirus and herpes simplex.
EasyCeLTM - Hep2 - a human negroid cervix carcinoma cell line susceptible to respiratory syncytial virus and the measles virus.
EasyCeL MDCK - a canine cocker spaniel kidney cell line susceptible to vesicular stomatitis (Indiana strain), vaccinia, adenovirus, influenza, para-influenza and infectious canine hepatitis.
EasyCeL Vero - a monkey green kidney cell line which is susceptible to a wide range of viruses including poliovirus, rubella, herpes simplex and reoviruses.
The unique features of EasyCeL can bring many benefits to the laboratory:.
Ready-to-use - this new format allows you to inoculate directly into tubes that contain your cell line of choice.
Economical - the use of ECACC EasyCeL tube format will eliminate the labour intensive task involved in culturing cells in the standard T25 - T175 flasks.
The use of this new format will also minimise or eliminate wastage normally associated with using flasks.
Standardised- each EasyCeL tube present the optimal number of cells and has undergone stringent quality control testing at ECACC.
Each cell line bank is independently tested for virus susceptibility at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
Compatible - The 12mmx100mm tubes are the popular size currently used in most diagnostic laboratories and it provide adequate optical surface to detect viral infection.
Flexible - ECACC can supply the quantity of EasyCeL tubes required for your needs to arrive on any working day.
Order any combination or quantity of cell ines to arrive on the working day of your choice.
