Building on the success of Chameleon, the first hands-free ultrafast laser to tune more than 210nm, Coherent introduces the Chameleon-XR, a new addition to the product family that provides an extended 260nm tuning range covering 720-980nm.
"The extended 260nm tuning range of the new Chameleon-XR represents an important stride forward for the application of multi-photon excitation microscopy.
"The longer wavelengths the Chameleon-XR provides will give biologists the capability to image deeper into specimens, and to excite cutting-edge fluorophores such as YFP and DsRed more optimally," said Leigh Bromley, Coherent product line manager.
"The longer wavelengths will also reduce photo-bleaching effects in the sample, giving increased cell viability".
Like other members of the Chameleon family, Chameleon-XR produces femtosecond pulses with greater than 1W average output power.
Its superb beam quality and a pulse width optimized for minimal broadening in most microscopes also ensure intense sample excitation.
Chameleon-XR uses a patented Power Pulse dispersion-balanced tuning mechanism to optimize output power and pulse width automatically, at all times and all wavelengths, while its industry-leading Verdi pump laser ensures Chameleon-XR is among the quietest and most reliable hands-free ultrafast lasers.
Chameleon-XR also features a unique miniature closed-loop air re-circulator, which allows users to access wavelengths above 920nm without requiring an inconvenient external purge.
