A one-day seminar on Functional Ingredients and Dietary Trends will be held in London on Wednesday 22 November 2006
The seminar is being organised by Reading Scientific Services in association with the Food Additives and Ingredients Association and the Food Commodities and Ingredients Group of the Society of Chemical Industry.
Speakers will explore all of the technical, consumer, legal and advertising issues concerning the growing demand for functional foods.
There will also be a display of functional products to illustrate trends and possibilities.
Since the year 2000, sales of functional foods have grown by 143% and with UK sales already topping £1.1billion, the trend is still upwards (Mintel data).
Against this back-drop of rising sales consumers are becoming more aware of the link between diet and health.
Governments are therefore pushing the industry to develop healthier foods, at the same time as proposing changes in legislation that could affect the way functional foods can be developed and marketed.
This seminar will provide a balanced overview of the current market, the emerging consumer trends and the challenges for those involved in the development of new functional foods.
