The Zwick Roell Group says that it is the first to develop a digital machine specifically for testing solenoid actuators. Designed to apply and measure force and electrical values simultaneously, the electronic system is capable of testing both on-off switching solenoids and proportional solenoids across their full performance ranges.
By determining curves for force/stroke and force/current quickly and easily, the semi-automatic system enables solenoid quality, reliability and efficiency to be thoroughly policed during development and production.
The single-column testing machine is available with loads of 1kN and 2.5kN in horizontal and vertical versions.
Both are equipped with Zwick's latest TestControl and testXpert software for control and acquisition of test data.
Forces are measured by load cell to accuracies better than 0.5%, the software providing built-in detection of setting and calibration parameters, zero point and sensitivity alignment.
A digital or analogue current supply unit provides an isolated electrical source for the solenoid on test.
Currents for the force/current curve are measured by a precision shunt or ammeter, which feeds the software.
Specimens are positioned for testing by a pneumatic gripping unit attached to the machine's moving crosshead, a light barrier or proximity switch confirming that the solenoid is in place before the test is allowed to start.
Standardised connectors enable common specimens to be changed rapidly.
Despite the advanced electronics, the system is exceptionally easy to operate on the standard Zwick test programs, which can also cater for non-standard test sequences.
The simple pushbutton control panel is designed for semi-skilled use.
Once the test has been initiated, the software prepares for and carries out testing and evaluates, records and displays the results.
Other available features include an automatic contacting device for lateral solenoid mounting, and a labelling/marking system for identifying tested solenoids.
