Dual plasma burner and controller enhance analytical performance of Sievers sulphur and nitrogen chemiluminescence detectors
Ionics Instruments announces the availability of its new Dual Plasma burner and controller for use with the Sievers sulphur chemiluminescence detector (355 SCD) and Sievers nitrogen chemiluminescence detector (255 NCD).
Using patented Sievers dual plasma technology, which harnesses the power of two-flame plasma combustion, the Dual Plasma burner and controller substantially enhance detector analytical performance, cut start-up and equilibration times, reduce maintenance, and enable new detection capabilities.
The compact Sievers Dual Plasma burner advances the established Sievers chemiluminescence technology with a 200% or greater increase in selectivity and stability for both the 355 SCD and 255 NCD, and a 40% improvement in sensitivity for the NCD.
Other enhancements include a burner safety shroud, a heated base for exceptional baseline stability, and longer-lived ceramic tubes.
The Dual Plasma burner comes with a drop-in burner mount for easy installation on all major gas chromatograph (GC) brands and incorporates features for easy, low maintenance.
The new Sievers Dual Plasma controller features in-line electronic flow sensors, a convenient digital display with added controls and functionality, a narrower footprint, and an embedded nitrosamine option control for the 255 NCD.
Together, the Dual Plasma burner and controller give the 355 SCD and 255 NCD the easiest and fastest (15-minute) start-up and equilibration times of all chemiluminescence detector systems, the company claims.
Since its introduction in 1987, the Sievers SCD has been widely recognised for its extremely sensitive detection, high selectivity over carbon, excellent equimolar and linear responses, and absence of quenching.
Because it is the most sensitive and selective chromatographic detector for sulfur-containing compounds available, the 355 SCD is the detector of choice for three American Society for Testing Methods (ASTM) methods: 5504, 5623, and 7011.
The 255 NCD is known for extremely selective and stable response to nitrogen compounds.
The Sievers 355 SCD and 255 NCD have widespread applications in the analysis of sulphur and nitrogen compounds in gases, petroleum and petrochemical products, polymers, chemical, foods, beverages, fragrances, pesticides, fuel cell technology, and environmental samples.
The Sievers Dual Plasma controller and burner are available as an upgrade to recent-model SCDs and NCDs and comes as standard with all new 355 SCDs or 255 NCDs.
