This innovative new kit allows the rapid isolation of highly concentrated total RNA from extremely small samples, such as microdissected tissues or small numbers of cells
Thermo Fisher Scientific introduces the Macherey-Nagel NucleoSpin RNA XS total RNA purification kit to the UK market.
Based on reliable silica membrane technology, the innovative column design of NucleoSpin RNA XS permits a reduced elution volume of only 5-20ul.
Combined with higher RNA yields, this small elution volume results in a highly concentrated, highly purified sample that is ideal for sensitive downstream applications, such as RT-PCR.
NucleoSpin RNA XS is suitable for use with extremely small samples (0.1mg tissue or one cell) or with larger sample sizes (up to 5mg tissue or 100 cells).
Optimal RNA yield is ensured by the inclusion of chaotropic ions within the lysis buffer, which inactivate RNases (present in virtually all biological materials) thus preventing degradation of the RNA during the isolation procedure.
In addition, the kit offers the time-saving option for on-column removal of contaminating DNA using an RNase-free recombinant DNase (supplied with the kit).
The purified RNA is eluted under low ionic strength conditions in as little as 5ul RNase-free water (also supplied).
Thermo Fisher Scientific's product life cycle manager, Valentina Janusic, comments: "In comparative tests, NucleoSpin RNA XS has been shown to produce higher yields of purified RNA in smaller elution volumes.
"The resulting, highly concentrated sample is ready-to-use for sensitive downstream applications and the high purity of the sample allows the eluates to be used in RT-PCR without inhibition".
Macherey-Nagel products are available for delivery to UK addresses via ABgene, Epsom, UK (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific).
