The Panlab/Harvard rat paw pressure apparatus, according to the Randall and Selitto method, digitally measures mechanical pain for analgesia research.
The unit can be used for a range of applications including drug-mediated responses, pain sensitivity in injury, or inflammation models.
The experiment is carried out by gradually increasing pressure to a rat's paw, or on the toes and tail for mice, until a withdrawal motion is seen or an audible response is noted.
Maximum pressure is defined by the user.
The system includes two standard tips, flat for global response or conical shaped for more localised responses to the pressure.
The rat paw pressure apparatus is the only digital system that comes standard with Sedacom software.
Sedacom allows for automatic collection of force and latency data, which can be easily exported to statistical analysis software.
