Canadian biotechnology company Warnex has appointed Don Whitley Scientific as exclusive UK agent for its Genevision food safety tests which detect E coli O157 and E coli O157:H7
The tests rapidly and accurately identify simultaneously the presence in food samples of multiple, harmful pathogens, unlike most detection kits available which check specifically for E coli O157:H7.
Offering a versatile DNA detection platform, the Genevision system uses real-time PCR technology combined with unique genetic markers and software.
Time-saving and economical, it processes samples within 24 to 48 hours, providing a significant advantage over the five to seven days taken by traditional microbiology tests.
The AOAC Research Institute, the leading international authority on the validation of laboratory testing methods, has recently granted the Genevision tests 'performance tested' status.
This follows a previous award of 'laboratory procedure' status by Health Canada, after validation by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
With over 27 years experience in the microbiology industry, Don Whitley Scientific says it is ideally placed to promote and develop the Genevision tests in the UK, which now include listeria monocytogenes, listeria spp and salmonella spp. Its wide range of contract and consultancy services embraces all aspects of antimicrobial development programmes including efficacy, safety and clinical trial studies.
