New gels cover broader pH range, for increased overview of protein composition, enhanced resolution, and improved reproducibility of the protein pattern in the extreme basic region
Amersham Biosciences introduces a new line of Immobiline DryStrip gels that covers the pH range from 3 to 11.
Proteomics researchers who depend on high-resolution two-dimensional (2D) gel electrophoresis for separating complex protein mixtures will appreciate the increased speed and throughput that these new IPG strips provide.
"The new Immobiline DryStrip gels extend the pH range in the basic region from 10 to 11, compared to the traditional pH 3-10, yielding a broader overview of protein composition, enhanced gel resolution, and improved reproducibility of the protein pattern in the extreme basic region," comments John Burcham, strategic marketing manager at Amersham Biosciences.
Immobiline DryStrip gels, together with IPG buffer solutions, are components of the company's advanced 2D electrophoresis systems designed for high-throughput, high-resolution protein separation.
Immobiline DryStrip gels are compatible for use with Amersham Biosciences's Ettan IPGphor II and Multiphor II instruments, as well as with other protein separation systems.
Immobiline DryStrip gels separate proteins according to their isoelectric point and are used in the first dimension of 2D electrophoresis.
The new IPG strips include a broad-range gel (pH 3-11) and four medium-range gels covering shorter intervals (pH 3-5.6, 5.3-6.5, 6.2-7.5, and 7-11).
These pH ranges provide optimal overlap for comprehensive protein analysis and allow for about the same number of proteins to fall in each pH interval as they separate out along the strip.
