Laser protection eyewear coatings facilitate the production of thinner filters, which are lighter in weight and clearly brighter than filters from absorbing materials alone
BFi Optilas, in collaboration with LaserVision, is introducing a new technology of laser protection by thin coatings.
The requirements to suitable laser protection eyewear are very high. Users need protection against several wavelengths or wavelength bands in the correct laser mode with high protection levels, but they also want a high visible light transmission (VLT) and eyewear that is comfortable to wear.
Laser protection eyewear based on thin coatings are now coming closer to the 'ideal' laser protection eyewear, says BFi Optilas. LaserVision, which has been using this technology successfully for years, has now introduced a range of new laser protection filters based on so-called nanospec-technology, which offer clear advantages compared to the traditional absorbing filters: the coatings alone or in combination with absorbing laser protection material facilitate the production of thinner filters which are lighter in weight and clearly brighter than filters from absorbing materials alone.
The savings in weight compared to an equivalent filter based on absorbing glass material can amount to 40-80 %.
Furthermore, these filters have a much better colour vision, which is easier to the eye and especially important to medical professionals.
