Cambridge BioScience has been appointed the new distributor for Advanced Targeting Systems's range of targeted toxins and antibodies for the neuroscience research community
Antibodies, specific to a chosen cell type, act as targeting agents for a potent cytotoxin, Saporin, which permanently eliminates selected cells through ribosomal inactivation.
This makes it ideal for use in cell function/location studies, in addition to drug discovery.
The Saporin/antibody conjugate targets and enters the chosen cell and the bond between Saporin and the targeting agent is broken in the endosome.
Saporin causes inactivation of the cell's ribsomes resulting in cell death. Cells without the target receptor will not be affected.
Saporin can be used either in vivo or in vitro and while it is lethal for cells, it is safe in the laboratory.
