Unlike other heating systems which heat slowly and hold heat after shutdown, thick-film heaters provide rapid heating and fast cool down, due to their low mass and thermal properties
Available now from Davidon Industries is a range of thick-film heated elements manufactured in the Netherlands by Ferro Techniek.
The elements are Pems, or porcelain enamelled metal substrates.
Vitreous enamel coating has excellent resistance against thermal shock, as the expansion coefficient of enamel is tuned to the expansion coefficient of steel.
The standard dielectric coating is Kerdi, or Keramisch-ceramic dielectric, a blend of glass ceramic material developed at Ferro Techniek with superior dielectric qualities.
With normal coating thicknesses of 160um, the dielectric can withstand 1650V dielectric test. Temperatures can be over 600C with power densities as high as 70W/cm2.
Thick-film heating technology has made inroads in water heating, steaming and boiling over the last few years.
Unlike other heating systems which heat slowly and hold heat after shutdown, thick-film heaters provide rapid heating and fast cool down, due to their low mass and thermal properties.
Along with its dielectric capabilities, Ferro's custom design take up less space and can heat a larger surface area compared with tubular heating, providing more efficiency and better control, and avoiding excess radiant heat to the surrounding compartment and adjacent electronics.
