Benchtop system excises protein spots from both backed and unbacked 1D and 2D polyacrylamide gels and dispenses the plugs into a microplate
The GelPal from Genetix is a novel, compact benchtop system that effortlessly excises protein spots from both backed and unbacked 1D and 2D polyacrylamide gels, and dispenses the removed gel plugs into a 96-well microplate.
Incorporating a hand-held excision pen, with interchangeable heads of varying diameter and depth, the versatile GelPal can be efficiently used to excise a wide range of spot diameters and gel thickness (0.5-2.0mm).
Using the appropriate illumination system, the GelPal may be used to remove protein spots from Coomassie, silver, or Sypro ruby stained gels.
Dispensing of the gel plugs is controlled by a choice of hand or foot control module.
To aid the dispensing of gel plugs into the correct wells, the 96-well microplate is held on a microplate holder with illumination indent guides on either the rows or columns according to user preference.
The system is controlled and programmed from a simple keypad interface.
The pick volume range (5-250ul) and place volume range (5-250ul) can be programmed allowing the user to precisely define the place volume they wish the gel plug to be stored in.
Up to ten optimal gel excision programmes can be stored for user convenience.
The GelPal software also includes a purge function to ensure minimal cross-contamination of samples through efficient cleaning of the excision pin.
All components of the GelPal including the wash bottle, tubing and excision tool are extremely easy to dismantle, autoclave and clean ensuring long-term contamination-free protein excision.
