A unique fixture solves the problem of ensuring repeatability when engine valves are tested for hardness
A unique fixture designed by Indentec, fitted to the table of a Rockwell digital testing machine, positively locates the angled face of the valve for the test indenter and secures the valve while the test is made.
Either inlet or exhaust, the valve is mounted in a spring loaded carriage, which positions the face directly under the indenter nose at the specified angle.
A quick action clamp locks the valve in place for the Rockwell hardness test.
The clamp is then opened to allow the face to be rotated to the next test point.
Suitable for valves in a range of sizes with either 45 or 60 degree cone angle, the fixture tests to be carried at several different points on the angled faces.
Amenable to automation when necessary, it provides a quick, simple and inexpensive solution to a repeatability problem that troubles many engine manufacturers.
