Two new culture media for the isolation of salmonella from food and animal feed complete the range of required to follow the methods specified in ISO 6579:2002
Oxoid has launched two new culture media for the isolation of salmonella from food and animal feed.
Oxoid buffered peptone water (ISO) () and Oxoid Muller-Kauffmann Tetrathionate-Novobiocin (MKTTn) broth (CM1048 with novobiocin supplement SR0181) complete the range of culture media required to follow the methods specified in ISO 6579:2002.
Oxoid buffered peptone water (ISO) is a non-selective pre-enrichment broth designed to be used prior to selective enrichment in MKTTn broth and RVS medium (CM0866).
Selective enrichment medium, MKTTn broth, is then used prior to plating out on XLD medium (CM0469) and a second medium of the user's choice.
The ox bile and brilliant green within MKTTn broth improve selectivity, while the addition of novobiocin improves the inhibition of Proteus species.
Each of these media is described in BS EN ISO 6579:2002 Microbiology of food and animal feeding stuffs - Horizontal method for the detection of Salmonella spp.
