Product scheduled for release this month increases objectivity and reduces hands-on time for the in-depth analysis of 2D electrophoresis gels
PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences has announced a new OEM distribution agreement with bioinformatics developer Nonlinear Dynamics.
Under the agreement, Nonlinear will develop a powerful 2D gel analysis product exclusively for PerkinElmer.
The new Profinder 2D product, which will be available in June 2003, increases objectivity and reduces hands-on time for the in-depth analysis of 2D electrophoresis gels.
Profinder 2D extends analytical processing power, delivers consistent results and it allows the user to apply a more routine approach to the set-up, processing and editing of 2D gels.
Profinder 2D also enables reproducible results and efficient validation of 2D gel experiments.
The addition of this product to PerkinElmer's portfolio completes the company's total solution for gel-based proteomics.
The full line includes instruments such as the Proxpress proteomics imaging system, Proxcision proteomics gel cutting robot, Multiprobe II proteomics workstation for protein digestion and Maldi spotting, Tofprep Maldi spotting system, and the recently announced Protof 2000 Maldi O-Tof mass spectrometer for protein identification.
"This agreement gives us an appreciable advantage in the supply of solutions to the proteomics community," said Paul Gillyon, vice president and general manager of the Biopharmaceutical business of PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences.
"Reliable, reproducible software is fundamental to the proteomics workflow and we are pleased to have secured exclusive access to a product of this quality from Nonlinear.
As an intrinsic component of PerkinElmer's total-solutions approach for our customers, we are confident that this relationship with Nonlinear will be the catalyst enhancing the breadth and depth of proteomics market solutions." John Spreadbury, group sales and marketing director of Nonlinear Dynamics, added, "This agreement marks a significant milestone in the evolution of gel-based proteomics suppliers.
PerkinElmer is one of the first companies to recognise the extent to which software influences a researcher's purchasing decision.
