Antimicrobial skin cleanser also replenishes oils in the skin, attracting water and subsequently softening the skin making it easier to comply with hand hygiene policies
With the launch of new HibiScrub, now combining hand moisturising emollients with effective antimicrobial protection, Regent Medical says it has created an antimicrobial hand cleanser that will be welcomed by laboratory and veterinary professionals.
The current challenge with hand cleansers is that skin damage can result from repeated washing; this dry and cracked skin can lead to irritant contact dermatitis (ICD).
Research conducted by Regent Medical has shown that ICD can be a deterrent to frequent hand washing.
New HibiScrub is an antimicrobial skin cleanser which also replenishes oils in the skin, attracting water and subsequently softening the skin making it easier to comply with hand hygiene policies.
The product also has no adverse effect on the ability to don gloves.
HibiScrub can be used as an antiseptic handwash and for pre and post-operative hand disinfection. HibiScrub - with 4% chlorhexidine gluconate microbicide - has been shown to have a bactericidal effect comparable to 60% n-propanol.
However, whereas alcohol based skin disinfectants have little residual activity, HibiScrub has an immediate bactericidal effect with sustained antisepsis lasting six to eight hours, reducing risk of subsequent cross-infection, says Regent Medical.
It has proven clinical efficacy against a wide range of pathogens including MRSA, MSSA, lipophilic viruses and yeasts and fungi.
With a blend of the emollients Macrogol 7, glycerol cocoate, and glycerol, HibiScrub leaves hands clean, aseptic and conditioned, with no adverse effects, says the company.
HibiScrub is the latest change to the Hibi range that also includes: HibiSol - antimicrobial handrub, to disinfect hands without washing, HibiTane - antimicrobial disinfectant, for general antiseptic purposes, and HibiCet - antimicrobial disinfectant, with cleansing properties for general antiseptic purposes.
