Designed to carry out efficient decontamination of reagents and associated equipment, prior to carrying out polymerase chain reactions
The latest addition to the Scie-Plas range of laboratory equipment is a PCR cabinet which is designed to carry out efficient decontamination of reagents and associated equipment, prior to carrying out PCR (polymerase chain reactions).
The PCR cabinet, which will prevent unwanted PCR product contamination, can be used with Scie-Plas safety trays and easy-clean tray liners and has a number of important features to ensure safe and reliable decontamination.
For example, four powerful UV tubes combined with optimal reflectors provide efficient irradiation of the complete work surface.
The UV lights are timer controlled to optimise the amount of UV exposure and will denature nucleic acids in 5-30 minutes.
This makes them unsuitable for amplification and so eliminates any possible cross-contamination between samples.
Also, the cabinet doors are fitted with safety cut-outs and locks which protect the user from any exposure to UV light.
The 10mm thick optical acrylic cabinet acts as an efficient shield of beta radioactive emissions and can therefore be safely used with isotopes such as 32P, while the uniform white light provides the user with good visibility when working within the cabinet.
In addition, the integrity of the light exposure within the cabinet is further enhanced because unlike other designs of PCR cabinets, there are no clips, shelves or holders to cast unwanted shadows within the cabinet.
This ensures that there is always complete removal of unwanted DNA material within the cabinet.
The cabinet is compact, measuring 770x560x420 and weights just 19kg, so is ideal for most laboratory bench-top situations.
As with all Scie-Plas products, the PCR cabinet can be supplied as a custom-build option to suit the specific requirements of most laboratory research applications.
