Multi-channel instrument offers high resolution, excellent signal/noise ratio and high reliability
Yokogawa UK has introduced a new FT-NIR (Fourier transform near-infrared) analyser which combines excellent signal/noise ratio with high reliability.
Designed for the online measurement of multiple properties in liquid streams in process or laboratory applications, the new InfraSpec NR800 is a multi-channel instrument which combines high wavelength resolution, outstanding accuracy and a wide scanning range.
Applications range from refinery gasoline blending to non-contact identification of raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry FT-NIR technology, based on interferometry principles, can be used to measure virtually any property in a liquid stream that correlates to an infrared absorption band.
The instrument automatically applies absorption measurements to calibration curves prepared in advance, allowing concentration and properties to be evaluated using multivariable analysis software.
Compared with traditional laboratory analysis techniques which can take days and are expensive in terms of chemicals and other consumables, FT-NIR measurement can be carried online in real time, making it ideally suited for plant monitoring and optimisation in a wide variety of process industries.
In addition to the benefits of high throughput and quick response time, the InfraSpec NR800 offers the additional advantages of exceptional stability, vibration resistance and durability resulting from its use of a purpose-designed Michelson interferometer with a vibration-resistant mechanism.
The instrument carries out measurements on up to four channels over a wavelength range from 0.9 to 2.5µm, which includes the combination tone region (2.0-2.5µm) required for OH-value measurement.
Resolution is down to 4cm-1, and signal/noise ratio is 2250:1 (RMS at 4cm-1).
Wavelength reproducibility is 0.007cm-1 and wavelength accuracy is 0.04cm-1.
Unlike many FT-NIR systems, the InfraSpec NR800 runs without a PC as a completely stand-alone system for online measurement, although external interfaces are provided for downloading measurement data and carrying out remote maintenance.
Software available for the instrument includes Spectland II for online monitoring and Unscrambler for chemometrics calibration and analysis.
Outlier detection and self-diagnosis functions are supplied as standard features.
For process applications, the InfraSpec NR800 can be supplied in both general-purpose and explosion-proof versions.
A desktop laboratory model is also available.
A wide range of flow cells, probes and other sample-handling accessories complete the analysis package.
