Update of mass spectral library includes 100 of the most common chemical warfare compounds as well as the new designer drugs that have appeared on the market
John Wiley and Sons has announced the launch of Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs 2005 CD-Rom, the first complete update since 2003.
This latest collection contains 2959 chemical compounds and 3437 mass spectra and structures of designer drugs, medicinal drugs, and warfare agents, and includes 100 of the most common chemical warfare compounds as well as the new designer drugs that have appeared on the market through the end of October 2004.
The data contained in Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs 2005 have been gathered from crime labs across Europe and from both legal and underground literature, providing the most comprehensive database currently available on these compounds.
The data include the chemical structure, chemical name, molecular formula, molecular weight (nominal mass), biological effect, and measurement conditions.
The high quality of the spectra is proven by the average peak number per spectrum (146) and by an average quality index of 90%.
Author Peter Rosner studied chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology at the University of Kiel.
In 1982 he joined the regional department of criminal investigation in Kiel and became the leader of the toxicology department, focusing on drug identification and structure elucidation with GC/MS.
Since 1992 he has been a lecturer in mass spectrometry at the University of Kiel.
Rosner received the Jean-Servais-Stas award from the Society of Toxicological and Forensic Chemistry on 15 April 2005 in honour of his outstanding work on mass spectral databases.
