The new O-Ring capsule sinker complements SMI-LabHut's extensive range of dissolution accessories available from LabHut
The O-Ring sinker is a contoured piece of 316 stainless steel which is strapped to a capsule by an o-ring elastomer.
The main feature of this sinker is that it allows swelling of the capsule while maintaining adequate sinking.
Spiral sinkers (made from type 316 stainless steel wire) are available in numerous wire turn configurations, from four to ten turns, and in several different dimensions to suit most dosage form sizes.
Machine-manufactured PTFE coated sinkers are also available and are designed for use with magnetic retrievers or when there may be a reaction between the steel and the dosage form.
Also available are basket sinkers with an 8- or 10-mesh and three pronged capsule sinkers, including magnetic styles.
The choice of sinker or capsule weight depends on the type and size of the dosage form.
The sinker should not occlude the surface of the dosage form more than necessary because of the risk of affecting the dissolution rate.
