Academy Savant has launched the first of a series of new e-Learning programmes that introduce the field of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
Entitled 'HPLC Fundamentals', the interactive tutorial is available online from Savant's website as well as on CD.
The programme is authored by two experienced HPLC practitioners: John Dolan, who writes the HPLC Troubleshooting column in LCGC Magazine, and Dennis Saunders, the creator of previous versions of Savant's HPLC computer-based training programmes.
This first module in the series defines and describes basic HPLC concepts.
Beginning with distribution equilibria, the authors explain retention, efficiency, resolution and selectivity.
Simulators based on efficiency and resolution equations graphically demonstrate how changing factors such as flow rate and solvent strength affect retention and efficiency in the chromatogram.
Building on the best features of the earlier versions, such as the use of interactive animations and simulations to explain and illustrate chromatographic concepts, the programme features a modernised interface, narration, an assessment quiz with automatic scoring and revision hyperlinks, a glossary and bibliography.
The customisation capability enables instructors to augment the basic content.
